Warminster Town Council: Delivering a brighter, greener future for all

Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to www.warminster-tc.gov.uk

This website is run by Warminster Town Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

You can access a complete list of all pages contained in the website, easily navigable with keyboard and screen readers, on the Sitemap Index here.

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not yet fully accessible:

  • you cannot navigate the main menu with keyboard, but can access the complete site map page here or with the link in the footer of each page
  • you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software
  • the top image banner is not user-resizable (but it is fluid design, so does not negatively affect accessibility)
  • the meeting minutes section may not be 100% compatible with keyboard navigation. Please contact us (details below) if you wish us to search for and send you any specific information
  • some graphical elements are repeated and close to each other, or use hidden / “empty” link elements to maintain the front end design. This is a limitation of the underlying structure of the website design and we cannot improve all of those things 100% without negatively affecting the main presentation of the website design
  • some secondary text (not critical to understanding the information) is too small

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Warminster Town Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to ‘the non-compliances’, ‘the exemptions’ or ‘the non-compliances and exemptions’ listed below.

Disproportionate burden

We have not yet identified anything as a disproportionate burden under the terms of the legislation.

Interactive tools and transactions

The global site search (in the header) can be difficult to navigate using a keyboard. For example, because some form controls are missing a ‘label’ tag and it is not possible to add to this section.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are constantly working to improve accessibility on our website. Any new content added in the future will consider all aspects of accessibility.

We plan to implement and test these deeper improvements:

  • Keyboard navigation for main menu system
  • Keyboard navigation for cascading content areas (the news “quick access” menu, the opening clubs / links panels etc)
  • Mark-up important information “sections” within page content
  • Meeting and minutes system updated to be more deeply accessible
  • Implement “Active focus” feature
  • Check WAVE compliancy (with disabled CSS)
  • Regular full audit of the website to identify remaining issues
  • Improvements to https:// URL “coverage”
