Warminster Skatepark gets go ahead
A new skatepark in Warminster has been given the go ahead by the town council.
The Lake Pleasure Grounds Community Skatepark is set to cost around £230,000, although none of this will come from the Warminster Town Council precept. Work is set to start on 1st May with a grand opening planned for September 2019

The project is budgeted at £230,697, of which £59,073 will be paid for using money given to the town by developers through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and section 106 contributions.
Cllr Denis Brett said: “This project has involved a lot of hard work by a lot of people over many years. I am delighted that it will be moving forward and look forward to seeing it in use.”
Warminster Mayor Cllr Tony Nicklin emphasised that the skatepark construction would be entirely funded through grants and would not add a penny to the town’s precept.
Calls for a new skatepark were started by local young people and they were supported by the voluntary group “Friends of Warminster Park”. The Friends raised the initial sums of money and worked with young people to design the skatepark and gain planning permission.

In September 2018, the scheme was taken over by Warminster Town Council who were best able to apply for grants and see to the project through to completion.

The skatepark plans have been widely supported both locally and nationally by: The Armed Forces Military Covenant The Warminster Area Board, The Local Youth Network, all local Councillors, local youth workers, the local MP, head teachers and scout leaders and has been a long held ambition of the local community as identified in Warminster & Villages Community Plan, Warminster Town Council’s Strategic Plan and Warminster Neighbourhood Plan.
